But our work at the service centre is about the same thing, only with hardware: to explain how something works, and to make it work again. Every time someone brings us a beloved gadget in tears and panic, we become a bit like teachers: we calm them down, we work it out, we show them that nothing terrible has happened. Because a simple teaching rule applies to technology too — a careful explanation heals better than punishment.
