A new school year, a new work rhythm, new tasks. And your devices need to keep pace with you in this marathon, not cough and splutter at the starting line.

But there is a catch: after the summer, devices often come back to the track not in the best shape. Beach sand, heat, travel, humidity — your iPhone and MacBook went through all of it with you. And the October breakdown usually starts quietly: the battery drains faster, the charging port gets finicky, the fan hums with effort. That is why the start of September is the ideal time to check the condition of your fleet of devices.

Do some simple preventive maintenance. First, open the battery settings: if wear has passed the critical mark, holding a charge gets harder and harder for such a device, and at the worst possible moment it may just shut down. Second, clean the ports and speaker grilles. Sand from the beach and dust from your backpack do not disappear by magic: they build up, and sooner or later charging starts to lose contact. Check that the cable fits snugly and that charging engages on the first try.

A laptop needs a check-up no less than a phone. Open Activity Monitor and see what is happening with resources: if your MacBook is humming like a plane taking off and you only have three browser tabs open, that is a symptom. Dust may have built up inside, thermal paste may have dried out, and the cooling system is no longer coping. Overheating does not go away on its own: it slowly but surely shortens the life of the chip.

And do not forget a visual inspection. Is the case bulging? Are there clicks when you open the lid? Is the headphone jack suspiciously quiet? All of these are early warning signs that are easier to sort out now than to listen to as they grow into a chorus in November.

Professional diagnostics exist precisely to find problems before they turn into an expensive repair. Five minutes of inspection with specialised equipment will show what to pay attention to and help you plan a replacement or service in advance — without any firefighting or sudden shutdowns in the middle of an important call. The person working in the workshop only takes off his armour at the end of the shift. But when it comes to someone else's devices, he is completely honest: he will tell you what needs replacing and what can wait until better times.

A September check-up is not an expense on repairs. It is an investment in a calm autumn. Check your devices now, so that October does not turn into a month of surprises.
